DragonSword: Awakening How to Play Johnny

Last updated: August 2026

Mercenary leader Break and Stun skills, party anchor role, and co-op positioning.

Johnny's Mercenary Leader Role

Johnny leads the mercenary company that recruits Lute, Castella, and Aria. His combat kit applies Break and Stun, anchoring parties during co-op Battle and story boss encounters. The official preview trailer embedded below introduces the Kingdom of Orbis and Johnny Mercenary's place in continental politics.

Party Anchor in Co-op

Johnny's skills keep enemies controlled while allies apply Signal Skills — ideal for two-player co-op where one player maintains Stun while the other executes tag chains. Developer streams show Johnny switching in for Break phases when Super Armor resists Airborne-only teams.

Story and Recruitment

Johnny recruits Lute early in Chapter 1 — no currency unlock required. Full game expands mercenary contracts across Orbis side quests. Pair with Castella and Aria using our Castella guide and Aria guide, or read the Johnny character profile.

He plays as a control-focused leader with Break and Stun rather than pure damage — ideal party anchor for co-op.
Can I skip Johnny in teams?
